Surgery

Venous and arterial surgery

As a vascular surgeon I deal with diseases that affect the peripheral vascular system. This system comprises the arteries and veins that lie outside the chest. For details see Venous Surgery and Arterial Surgery.

General surgery

As a result of the pressure for specialisation in surgery the only ‘general surgery’ that I now regularly carry out is the repair of hernias and removal of common skin lumps such as sebaceous cysts and lipomas. For information about hernias see the relevant Advice Sheet.

If you have an aversion to general anaesthetics and need repair of an inguinal hernia, think about having done very safely and comfortably under local anaesthesia (LA). See the relevant Advice Sheet for more details.

Varicose vein surgery under the NHS

Varicose vein surgery is only available through the NHS under special circumstances. See my article Lack of availability of varicose vein surgery under the NHS.
